Black Porcelain Outdoor Tiles

Are black outdoor porcelain tiles easy to keep clean?

Black outdoor porcelain tiles are often difficult to keep clean in the same way as it is hard to keep a black car clean. This may sound rather strange, but often the lighter coloured pavers are easier to keep clean.

However, when maintained and washed down regularly we think the black outdoor slabs look truly amazing.

What grout to use on black porcelain paving?

A question that we often get asked is ‘what grout should I use with my black porcelain paving slabs’. This genuinely is a personal preference in what look you are trying to create. If you are wanting that sharp colour contrast between the dark paving slab then choose a light grout, on the other hand if you are trying to create a more seamless appearance for your patio paving then a mid or dark coloured grout to match the pavers can be used.

How to get slurry primer stains off porcelain slabs?

When installing porcelain paving you must use a slurry primer to improve the adhesion from the wet mortar bed onto the wet slurry that is primed onto the back of each slab as you lay. The standard practice is to wipe down the slabs with a clean sponge and bucket as you go along. However, sometimes accidents happen, and slurry stains can be left on the top of the surface of the porcelain.

It is important that these stains are cleaned off instantly as the slurry primer is a very strong bonding agent that will stick to the surface of the tile.

Do not panic if you cannot wash off in time, there are designated cleaning products that can be used to break down the slurry stain and it will then wipe away easily.

Our advice... Try not to stain the porcelain paving with the slurry primer during the installation!

Do Black Outdoor Porcelain Tiles get hot in the sun?

People often call us to ask if porcelain pavers get hot in the sun. As a rule the answer for most colours is no, outdoor porcelain pavers do not get hot in the sun.

However, on occasions the dark anthracite grey and black paving slabs can get warm to the touch on very hot days.
