Does outdoor porcelain paving need sealing?
NO.
Porcelain paving does not need sealing, however can be sealed if you prefer the deeper richer colour similar to that when wet. At Melton Stone we do not recommend sealing outdoor porcelain paving as it is a non-porous 0.01% absorption rated material. Sealers work best on natural stone materials such as Indian Sandstone as it absorbs and engrains into the stone for longer lasting protection.
What is full bodied porcelain?
Full body porcelain means the entire tile is composed of natural clays. Full body is not the same as through colour. Full body tiles may use different coloured clays. During the firing process sintering occurs making the tile one. This is not dissimilar to the way nature makes stone from sediment. Advances in technology have made it possible to digitally print, using ink jet machines, anything one can imagine onto porcelain tile. Reclaimed wood images, fabrics, and rare stones can now be faithfully reproduced. However, glazes must be applied over all ink jet printed tile to protect the image. All ink jet porcelain tile is a glazed tile.
