What is the best adhesive to lay fireplace hearth stones?
Use Interior Tile Adhesive for virtually any stone whether that be sandstone or porcelain. Ensure the base is dust free and the slab is thorough and clean and dry, apply adhesive to the back of the stone, and press to the wall. Easy clean up, just wipe off with a damp cloth. If you had to build up the level then you can also use a traditional sand and cement mix which is therefore deeper then adhesive.
Should I use a slurry primer to lay fireplace hearth stones?
If you are laying the fireplace hearth on sand and cement then you will need to apply a slurry primer to the underside of the tile, however if you are laying the slabs onto a tile adhesive than a slurry primer is not needed.
Remember, please ensure the hearth stone slab is clean and dry at all times prior to laying to guarantee best adhesion.
What is the standard gap width for fireplace hearth slabs?
The width of the gap between the hearths stone slabs is a personal preference on what you wish to see. This works in the same way of patio paving where by some people like the look of a 5mm joint which is fairly tight, some people prefer a wider joint at 10mm.
