How to lay porcelain paving?
Porcelain Paving is no different to installing traditional paving, the only thing you must ensure you do is apply a slurry primer to the underside of the tile. Porcelain Paving can be laid directly on to a concrete base using tile adhesive OR it can be laid onto a hardcore sub base using a simple 5:1 sharp sand and cement mix. It will then need grouting between the gaps – you can use either a brush in jointing compound or dedicated outdoor porcelain paving grout.
What is Vitrified Porcelain Paving
Vitrified Porcelain paving is a paving tile that is made from clay along with minerals, these materials are then fired in a kiln at 1200 degrees Celsius which makes an extremely hard and durable tile. The high heat manufacture process also means that the water absorption rate is extremely low at les than 0.5%.
What is Slurry Primer?
Installing Porcelain Paving is a slightly different process to other paving styles due to some key characteristics.
Porcelain Paving is great at being stain-resistant, anti-slip and low maintenance meaning that it will look and stay clean, with care, for years. But compared to other popular paving styles, including Indian Sandstone, Porcelain has an exceptionally low level of water absorption, which means it will not draw moisture to the same level.
However, this means when laying the porcelain paving, it won’t absorb much from the bedding mortar naturally but, with the help of ‘Slurry Primer’, a strong bond is created between the mortar bed and tile to help it stay in place, not lift over time and maintain its structural integrity.
Do Porcelain Paving Stain?
Porcelain Paving is incredibly stain resistance, as this paving option has an incredibly low water absorption rate which means that you can simply wipe off the spilt residue off the surface of the tile.
Is Porcelain Paving Child and Pet friendly?
Porcelain Paving is one of the best paving options if you have children or pets. There are a couple of reasons why you should choose porcelain paving as your next paving option. Porcelain paving is stain resistance so should your child spill anything or your pet have an accident on the tiles the mess will wipe straight off due to it having a low water absorption rate. The second reason is that the tiles offer a R11 Anti-slip resistance which makes them the perfect tiles if you have children playing outside on the paving.
